Green Wave CO₂ Range of Refrigeration Equipment Proves to be a Perfect Choice for Supermarkets in Iceland

Green Wave CO2 refrigeration equipment, which uses CO2 (R744) refrigerant, is ideal for countries with mild to cold climate conditions. In places where the average annual temperature is 15 °C or lower, CO2 refrigerant can reduce supermarkets’ energy consumption by up to 10%. That is why the Green Wave CO2 line was a perfect choice for the Krónan chain in ‘the land of fire and ice’ – Iceland.

But that was not the only reason the new Krónan store in the city of Akranes chose FREOR Green Wave CO2 cooling equipment. CO2 is a natural, non-toxic refrigerant with almost no effect on global warming if any of it leaks. It is environmentally friendly and complies with all regulatory requirements. All of that makes this an excellent investment that pays for itself in just 3-5 years in countries with a cold or moderate climate.

All the new refrigeration equipment for the Akranes store was chosen from FREOR to make communication, installation, and future maintenance as easy and straightforward as possible for the store manager. All services are thus provided for the store by FREOR’s local partner.

A Closer Look at the Green Wave CO2 Equipment Installed at the Krónan Store

To display fresh products, the new story placed long rows of large-capacity JUPITER multidecks by its rear walls. For better energy efficiency, some of the multideck chillers were installed with glass doors, and some open multideck versions were chosen to support higher turnover.

For its meat department, the Krónan store chose a VEGA SPACE QB LG self-service counter and PLUTON SPACE semi vertical refrigerators. Islands of PLUTON SPACE equipment, with their frameless design and bent glass doors that offer an outstandingly clear view of products, became the store’s centrepiece.

Finally, the store chose HELLA and LUNA freezer islands and ERIDA upright freezers for its frozen food department. FREOR freezers ensure the preservation of frozen foods at different temperature ranges and, most importantly, protect against glass fogging.

This project was implemented by FREOR’s Iceland-based partner FROST, which works closely with customers to meet their needs, focusing on safety and energy conservation.
