EDEKA Group’s HIEBER Store Reopens After Major Renovation Featuring FREOR NDL Equipment
A member of the EDEKA cooperative, Hieber’s Frische Center has recently reopened its HIEBER’s Lädele store in Wyhlen, Germany, following a major renovation—the first in over 20 years.
Since its opening in 2005, HIEBER’s Lädele has been dedicated to offering the freshest produce sourced from local suppliers, aiming to deliver an exceptional product quality and shopping experience. To ensure this continues in the future, the supermarket has modernized its store to make it even more attractive, convenient to customers, and sustainable with FREOR refrigeration solutions!

Modernized Supermarket with NDL Refrigeration Equipment
The main goal of the renovation was to give the supermarket a modern look that aligns with the preferences and expectations of today’s shoppers. To achieve this, HIEBER selected FREOR’s NEW DESIGN LINE (NDL) refrigeration equipment, which is a perfect choice for creating a strong visual statement in any retail environment.
The NDL refrigeration equipment, characterized by its sleek, minimal design featuring straight lines, sharp corners, and the HIEBER’s chosen dark color palette, perfectly complements the updated store interior. To create an even greater visual impact, the supermarket chose full-height glass doors for the multidecks, adding a sense of elegance and height to the space.
The similar designs of the NDL JUPITER and NDL ERIDA seamlessly blend together, creating a visually appealing layout.
Refrigeration Equipment for the Expanded Product Range
As part of the renovation, HIEBER aimed to significantly expand its goods assortment to better meet its customers’ everyday needs. With the addition of 2,500 new items, it was essential to implement versatile and spacious commercial refrigeration units that could present the broader selection in a clear, organized, and visually appealing manner.
For the display of fresh products, HIEBER’s selected NDL JUPITER multidecks, known for their versatility and spaciousness, are ideal for showcasing large volumes of different items in a sturdy and durable way.
To ensure a smooth transition between fresh and frozen products, the NDL JUPITER units were placed next to the NDL ERIDA upright freezers. The similar designs of the NDL JUPITER and NDL ERIDA seamlessly blend together, creating a visually appealing layout. The NDL ERIDA freezers offer large product capacity and flexible shelving, making them perfect for displaying a wide variety of frozen goods.
To maximize the use of the sales area, PLUTON SPACE semi vertical cabinets were arranged back-to-back in the center of the store. Their medium height ensures visibility across aisles, allowing customers a full view of the store layout. The wide display shelves of the semi vertical can showcase a broad range of products in an accessible and visually appealing way.
Sustainable and Energy-efficient CO2 Cooling Technology
As the store had not undergone renovation in over 20 years, the existing cooling system no longer met current regulations and needed to be replaced with a more reliable, sustainable, and future-proof solution. HIEBER opted for a remote refrigeration system that operates with natural CO₂ refrigerant, connecting all newly implemented FREOR equipment to this environmentally friendly system. This renovation marks another significant step towards more sustainable supermarket operations.
