Energy Efficient FREOR Refrigeration Solutions at BILLA Bulgaria

FREOR commercial refrigeration equipment operates in more than 55 countries, allowing us to work with many different clients worldwide. One of many is the BILLA Bulgaria supermarket chain, owned by one of the largest European retailers, REWE. BILLA Bulgaria has been making systematic efforts to reduce its carbon footprint for over a decade now, which includes choosing sustainable, energy-efficient commercial refrigeration equipment and its solutions.

This time, FREOR implemented two environmentally friendly commercial refrigeration projects in BILLA Bulgaria, located in the cities of Plovdiv and Dobrich.

Energy-efficient Refrigeration with Hydroloop Glycol

BILLA Bulgaria strives to achieve its energy efficiency targets by selecting commercial refrigeration units with glass doors and LED lighting. Although these upgrades lead to improved energy consumption, the primary contributors to energy savings are choosing the right cooling system and refrigerant it operates on based on the supermarket, its location, and its needs.

FREOR, an advocate for environment-friendly cooling, offers many sustainable and energy-efficient solutions that can be adapted to the client’s needs. One of the most popular and environment-friendly solutions is Hydroloop Glycol – a cost-effective alternative to the remote refrigeration system, which was implemented in both BILLA Bulgaria stores.

Hydroloop Glycol system operates on environment-friendly and energy-efficient propane (R290) gas refrigerant. It connects plug-in refrigeration equipment that has all its components and compressors inside to a glycol-cooled system with a plate condenser. The system efficiently removes excess condensation heat through liquid pipes to the exterior of a building or allows it to be reused for heating the store or water, which highly adds up to better supermarkets’ energy consumption by saving up to 30% of the energy.

Both FREOR-implemented BILLA Bulgaria stores were equipped with the same commercial refrigeration equipment units. The implemented refrigeration equipment includes multidecks JUPITER and NEPTUN, serve-over counters VEGA QB HG, self-service counters VEGA QB LG, and freezers ERIDA.
