FREOR always enjoys working with companies in its homeland, Lithuania, especially when that means implementing environmentally friendly cooling solutions that benefit the ecology of the country.
The largest outlet mall in northern Europe, Vilnius Outlet, was opened in the Lithuanian capital last year. There, the largest and most modern Rimi supermarket and the Assorti gourmet shop were outfitted with FREOR commercial refrigeration equipment.
The stores, both with ecology in mind, made distinct decisions for sustainable and environmentally beneficial cooling solution. Rimi went with FREOR’s Green Wave CO2 line of remote refrigeration equipment modified to use CO2 as a refrigerant. The Assorti store, meanwhile, opted for plug-in refrigeration equipment running on natural propane (R290) gas from the Green Wave R290 product line.
With very low GWPs, neither refrigerant is harmful to the environment, and both would have little to no impact on global warming in case of any leakage.
For larger supermarkets like Rimi, CO2 systems are frequently used for the sake of low power consumption. In places with mild to cold climates, like Lithuania, a remote cooling system operating with a CO2 refrigerant can significantly improve energy efficiency and pay for itself in a short time. Moreover, since the refrigeration components for such systems are all mounted in one room, refrigerators have more storage space, which is essential for large-format stores.
R290 refrigerant works great for smaller-size stores like Assorti as such systems eliminate the need for a separate room: all components involved in the refrigeration cycle are fitted inside the equipment. That means the equipment can be easily relocated and new equipment can be added at any time without closing the store. Plug-in refrigeration equipment uses hermetic compressors that operate excellently in a variety of temperatures, making this too a very energy-efficient solution.
For the Rimi supermarket’s 3,800 square meters of sales area, FREOR delivered more than 170 meters of refrigerated cabinets and freezers from the Green Wave CO2 line: 13 JUPITER multidecks, 2 JUPITER ROLL-IN multidecks, 20 PLUTON SPACE semi verticals formed into islands, 9 VEGA QB HG serve-overs and 2 VEGA QB H2 self-service counters, a VEGA QB HOT BM heated showcase and 17 HELLA freezers.
At the Assorti store, FREOR installed 3 DELTA freezers, a VEGA QB PASTRY LU with a VEGA QB HG LU OC90 corner and 8 VEGA SPACE QB HG LU serve-over counters – all from the Green Wave R290 range.
