IKI autonomous stores implemented with FREOR refrigeration equipment

2023-05-25

For years, FREOR’s commercial refrigeration solutions have been the trusted choice of IKI, one of the leading supermarket chains in Lithuania. This trust has been continued with their latest, innovative retail format – an autonomous store in Vilnius, where FREOR’s refrigeration equipment has been chosen again.

The newest IKI concept has gained popularity due to its convenience to customers. Combining 24/7 and autonomous store format with no cashiers, which operates with autonomous shopping technology powered by artificial intelligence, customers can shop at any time that suits them without any lines. The artificial intelligence in the store provides the best customer experience and manages store operations by monitoring inventory levels, anticipating demand, placing orders, and scheduling staff as needed.

Energy efficiency and sustainability with FREOR refrigeration equipment

The biggest autonomous IKI store yet was implemented with commercial refrigeration equipment from FREOR, which was easily adapted to innovative retail solutions, operating on Plug & Play system.

Plug & Play refrigeration equipment has efficient hermetic compressors and other components involved in the refrigeration cycle fitted inside the equipment to operate fully autonomously. It works effectively in various temperatures and uses up to 80% less refrigerant than remote cooling systems. Moreover, it uses propane (R290) gas refrigerant, leading to a reduction of up to 30% in energy consumption and environmentally friendliness since R290 is a natural refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) of just 3.

Fulfilling autonomous stores’ needs

The new store was implemented with multidecks JUPITER for the excellent presentation of the beverages and grab-and-go kind of products. JUPITER multidecks have sliding glass doors that help save space in the store. The doors don’t interfere with the shopping experience of other customers and also improve energy efficiency. The powder-coated, zinc-plated metal (1.4 mm thickness) construction of JUPITER multidecks guarantees durability, essential to the store that works 24/7 in a busy area with many daily customers.

A small upright freezer ERIDA was also implemented in the store for summer’s essential – ice cream presentation. With anti-condensation foil on the internal pane, ERIDA freezer reliably prevents fogging after opening. At the same time, its large-sized glass panels provide an outstandingly clear view of the products, even from a distance.

FREOR is happy that the IKI chain, creating innovative retail solutions, has put its trust in FREOR’s commercial cooling solutions and continues working together by implementing modern, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly retail projects across Lithuania.
